STEVE SATTEN

Satten From Manhattan

Steve Satten has always been the man of the times. Since first becoming a musician at the age of 12 in Brooklyn, NY where he got his start, Satten—an accomplished songwriter, trumpet player, drummer, and producer—has made his mark in music with his talent, distinguished smooth voice, and charm. With over 50 years in the industry, Satten has written over 100 songs and earned respect from all of his collaborators. Throughout his illustrious career, Satten spent many years touring and performing as a trumpet player and singer in different bands and as a solo artist. In the 1970s, he was one of the main members of the band Ten Wheel Drive, led by the famed Genya Raven. In 1975, Satten released his debut album, Whatcha Gonna Do For Me? The LP, which was produced by David Spinozza and came out on Columbia Records, earning raved reviews. In 1978, Satten launched his own label, Contempo Vibrato Recordings. The imprint released albums from Mitch Kerper (A Real Melody), David Liebman (Lieb: Close Up), and a collaborative project with Jimmy Cobb (drummer on Miles Davis’ Kinda Blue), Freddie Hubbard, and Gregory Hines (So Nobody Else Can Hear). Over the years, Satten From Manhattan as Steve is professionally known, has worked with many other talented musicians such as Richard Tee, Pee Wee Ellis, Roy Hargrove, Cissy Houston, and more. Satten has also written many beautiful songs including “Happy New Year”, “Spring Time, “My Old Friend”, “So Nobody Else Can Hear,” sung by Gregory Hines, “I Miss You My Love,” a duet with Mary Beth DeSare, “Brokenhearted Melod”, “I’ll Still Be In Love With You,” “The Drummer,” and more, many of which can be heard on this site. Today, Satten from Manhattan lives with his wife of almost 50 years in Saugerties, NY, and is still a man of the times. And the time is now—forever.
